Some History about the house:
Carlos Manuel Goncalves Mateus, inherited what is now Monte Novo & commenced to repair, modernise & re-present Monte Novo in his style & to his tastes.
Originally 3 separate dwellings run as a self sufficient farm for many years, Carlos set about his work with a will but his renovations & upgrades were done in keeping with traditional Portuguese style of Architecture & design but incorporated his own ideas & influences, not just in the re-construction of Monte Novo but the inclusion of his work in ceramics, pottery, paintings & in particular in Cork using crafts taught by his Grandfather which still luckily have remained & are on display to this day, there are examples in the pictures on this feature.
When this was completed Carlos ran classes from Monte Novo to instruct & guide locals to follow his methods & designs. He also worked in Ourique & Santana itself.
Eventually he moved on & sold to a company which again modernised the property without losing the character of the place. It became a holiday let at this time.
Finally the present owner bought it in 2020, again upgrading Monte Nove & again keeping the original features.
